Parts of them are made of nothing…

empty ibuprofen and champagne bottles
the one following the other following the other
rolling and rolling and shattering open
until everyone has forgotten how to speak
until everyone has fallen into a darkened stupor
until everyone has felt the ground holding them up
empty stomachs and pick up truck beds
empty first pages and good bye glances
empty mouths, empty hands
everyone has forgotten their keys on their coffee tables
everyone has forgotten their identities in their wallets
everyone is leaning against the white-washed wall
everyone is smoking illicit substances
everyone is hoping to be called inside
no one knows the combination
no one knows the magic word
no one knows the secret handshake
no one is bribing everyone to disappear
everyone is calling no one a liar
no one is stealing everyone’s last lines
everyone is spitting in no one’s face
in empty living rooms, empty hallways,
empty concert halls and classrooms
no one and everyone are sleeping together
the one following the other following the other
rolling and rolling and shattering open
